Downskill

There is often a need for operators and data managers to have Unix System Administrator skill sets, due to:
  • Many of the common data management tasks within image processing require administrator (root or sudu) privileges on critical machines (meta data servers, etc.).

Technical Expertise of Operators and Data Managers
It is not uncommon for "entry level" positions to be responsible for data worth $ millions within file based workflows. The following provides insight into the technical expertise often present with operators and data managers:
  • Data managers are often “entry level” positions and many do not posses the level of technical expertise common with System Administrators.
  • Increasingly the individuals responsible for actually managing data are becoming less computer literate, very few of these individuals actually know how to use command line utilities.

Reduce OPEX Costs by Reducing Technical Expertise
DataFrameworks can provide easy to use, secure and automated processes to help reduce error and required operator skill set through DataFrameworks managed data tasks. Routine operations are simplified in a controlled manner and technical complexity is masked from the operator.
  • DataFrameworks provides functionality to execute privileged commands on behalf of the user in a controlled fashion.
  • The DataFrameworks interface can be configured to incorporate functionality to allow data managers the ability to perform "custom actions" that might be privileged operations (i.e. move data via high speed copy mechanisms, defragmentation, etc.) without providing each data manager with root-level (administrator) privileges.
  • The custom menu options are only displayed if the option is valid (i.e. valid source and destination for copy operations) further guiding the user to the acceptable or most efficient options
  • The “custom action” menus invoke customizable scripts for specific actions,
